Lebanon Pa. Newborn Photographer | What to Expect | Newborn Portrait Session

I thought it would be helpful to go over what parents of newborns can expect in regards to a newborn photography session at KCB Photography, LLC.  Firstly, please know that I take this honor and privilege very seriously.  If your baby isn’t comfortable and cozy during his or time in my studio, I’m not doing my job! I take all precautions to make sure your baby is safe and comfortable at all times during these special sessions.  These preparations start well before you arrive at my Lebanon County photography studio, from planning yournewborn session,  checking all my props to ensure that they are clean and sturdy, to washing all my linens, and getting the temperature in the studio to a toasty 80 degrees.  The studio includes a lounge area for parents to relax and watch some tv, read, etc., a restroom, a private nursing room, a playroom, and a kitchenette which I keep stocked with snacks and refreshments for studio clients.

FAQs

What If My Baby Doesn’t Sleep?

This is a common concern among parents. First of all, awake shots are always wonderful, but keep in mind that many parents who stress ahead of time about their baby not sleeping during the newborn session end up pleasantly surprised when baby does in fact sleep well for their time at the studio. I have plenty of tricks up my sleeve for getting wake babies to sleep. From soothing sounds, to warm temps, and so on. Your baby will be extremely comfortable. I have never had a baby who didn’t sleep for at least a portion of their session.  And believe me when I say I LOVE newborns… if he or she doesn’t want to sleep I’m more than happy to take over helping get them there. If that means walking baby around the studio for 20 minutes, it gives me an excuse to get in some holding and snuggling time with your little one. I don’t mind.. in fact, cuddling newborns is one of the highlights of this profession for me!

What if I Need to Feed my Newborn During the Session?

I fully expect that you’ll need to feed your baby at least once while here. This is why I have a lounge area with a television, as well as a separate private room for those who’d like to feed their baby in  complete privacy.  I welcome and encourage you to feed  your baby as long and as often as necessary.  A full tummy usually makes for a sleepy baby!

Do I need to Provide Outfits and Accessories?

Nope! My studio is stocked with outfits, hats, accessories, headbands, tiebacks, and so on. You don’t need to provide anything. However, if there is a special sentimental item which you’d like to have your newborn photographed with, please feel free to bring it along and we will include it in some photos.

Can Family Members Get in the Photos?

Of course! I love shots with mom, dad, and newborn, as well as siblings shots.   I have found it’s best to get sibling photos completed first so that big sister or brother can then play in the studio’s playroom or relax and watch some tv. If you’d like ideas or tips regarding what family members should wear, please feel free to ask!

When Should I Reserve my Newborn Photo Session?

The earlier you book, the better.  I would say a good rule of thumb is to book the session at least 60 days before baby’s due date. It sometimes works out that I can accommodate a last-minute newborn session, but there have been occasions when I’ve had to turn people away because I just can’t accommodate them at the last minute.  It really all depends on my schedule for that particular week or month. Believe me, I feel terrible having to do that, which is why it’s important to book ahead of time. If your baby is soon-to-arrive or was just born, it never hurts to ask if I have availability. Just contact me and I’d be more than happy to check my schedule and get back to you ASAP.

What is my role during the session?

Your job is to relax during your baby’s newborn photography session! While your baby will always be in your sight during the entire session, there is nothing you need to worry about while you’re in the studio, with the exception of feeding for breastfeeding moms.  The studio is designed for your comfort so please take advantage of the lounge area, television, and refreshment area. I have even had parents fall asleep on the studio couch during these sessions! It’s actually a point of pride for me… I love that they were so comfortable and relaxed that were able to catch some much-needed Zzzz’s. Should your infant go to the bathroom or spits up during the session, it’s no biggie! This happens all the time! I will clean up, remove any soiled linens, and resume the session.

Where is the Studio Located?

My in-home studio is located in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, less than 10 minutes from Hershey, and roughly 20 minutes from both Lancaster and Harrisburg, Pa.

What happens after the newborn session is complete?

The post-processing portion of your baby’s photos generally takes about 14 days. Once each image has been carefully custom-edited by myself, they will be uploaded into a password-protected online proofing gallery.  At that point, I will contact you with your designated password so you can view your photos. Passwords can be shared with friends and family, if desired. The ordering process can be done from the comfort of your own home but should you have ANY questions or need assistance of ANY kind, I’m always just a phone call or email away to help you in any way.
