Session Timeline…
The details…
First and foremost, newborn safety is my absolute first priority during these sessions. An experienced newborn photographer will always put baby’s safety and welfare before any desired pose or shot. No pose is worth sacrificing your newborn’s comfort. Before each session, I inspect all props to ensure the integrity of the item is never compromised. Additionally, I always also keep the studio nice and warm to ensure baby’s optimum comfort. I pride myself on always taking my time posing newborns, ensuring prop and pose safety, and letting the baby run the show, so to speak.
Newborn photography sessions take place at my in-home studio in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. KCB Photography studio is also conveniently located minutes from Hershey and approximately a 30-minute drive from Harrisburg and Lancaster. The studio includes a seating area with a kitchenette stocked with snacks and refreshments, including a coffee station.
It’s highly recommended that newborn photography sessions be scheduled as early as possible before birth to ensure a spot on the calendar. The ideal time to reserve a session is during the second trimester of pregnancy. I only book a limited number of newborn sessions per month, so the earlier you contact me, the better. Actual session dates can be adjusted accordingly as your due date approaches. About 3-4 weeks prior to your due date, I’ll contact you and ask that you submit a newborn pre-session questionnaire. This form helps me to know what color schemes, props, or special themes you may wish to incorporate into your little ones’ photos, essentially helping me to tailor the session to your family’s unique style and taste. The photo studio is fully stocked with newborn outfits, hats, accessories, and props. However, if you have a special hat or blanket or sentimental item that you would like to include in some photos, please feel free to bring it along. If you’d like to see some of the newborns I’ve been privileged to photograph, please visit my Newborn Photo Session Gallery.
Newborn photo shoots are best done about 5-18 days after birth. Generally, newborn sessions take about 3 hours but this does depend on how well baby sleeps. A well-fed baby is (usually) a sleepy baby so I recommend a thorough feeding just before leaving home to come for your scheduled session. Typically, a feeding and car ride put newborns into a nice deep sleep. Of course, this isn’t always the case and a session can be paused at any time, and as often as needed, to feed or nurse baby and snuggle and cuddle him or her back to sleep. Newborn sessions are scheduled on weekdays and begin at 10am.
